SUCCESS

We started with one hundred and fifty pupils from korogocho pupils who helped us in piloting of the project as we trained them for free for a whole year. The number rose up as parents saw the impact these skills had to their kids, it had helped reduce idleness as they had their minds occupied, their innovation skills too could be seen as they had started making some moving toy cars they had watched on youtube, some became so good that they would teach their fellow friends.   
The idea however motivated us to move into private schools teaching in informal settlements areas neighbouring korogocho and kariobangi in Kasarani in 2017 hence we registered it as a business (now Digitoto It Solution). It has been a great journey as we’ve had an opportunity to reach 9 schools out of which 5 were positive and we got an opportunity to teach their pupils.

These schools include: -

Roxnana academy with 29 pupils
White dove academy with 10 pupils
Brookfield academy saika with 34 pupils
Brookfield academy junior with 7 pupils
Komarok (upendo kenya) with 54 pupils

By the end of 2017 we had reached 134 kids. For schools which continued with the project e.g Brookfield academy, the fact that they were offering computer in their schools acted as a marketing strategy against neighbouring schools. We also had an opportunity to train computer packages to some of the parents as they were challenged by their kids at home. This proved that there was impact already to kids and it was even extending to the parents.

We also had a successful computer boot camp for November December 2019 holiday. The program was held at PEFA Riverview at Ruai Eastern Bypass Nairobi. We had 15 participants who successfully completed the program out of 20 who dropped out due to un avoidable circumstances.

Our work and impact earned us a feature on the standard newspaper of 14th march 2019, we have also benefited under pollination program through a grant and Africa YES program through extensive training.
